How to Decorate on a Budget

How to Decorate on a Budget

Because we spend so much time in our homes during this pandemic, there's never been a better time to search for more cost-effective design solutions! It is essential that we decorate our house to provide comfort to our stressed minds without spending a lot of money.

If you despise digging into your wallet but enjoy having festive and warm seasonal accessories year-round, this article is for you. We'll show you how to decorate your house on a budget using five different methods!

1.) Purchase Home Decor that can be Reused and Repurposed

Removing a piece of décor that has become a fixture in your house might be difficult. That is why finding decor that includes seasonal accouterments may be such a time and money-saver! You can get a piece of décor that can be utilized all year with interchangeable accessories to fit every mood and season!

Take for example Ghostie Stew by Johanna Parker or the Holly Jolly Mugs by Glitterville.  These fun pieces can be changed throughout each season by adding a different little hat (hats shown are creations by @wigglebugs).

2.) Don't Be Afraid of a Little DIY

DIY is the future of home decor. This is the easiest way to save the most money when decorating. The great thing about DIY decorating is the wide range of projects you could try. For the spring, consider making your own wreath instead of purchasing one from Michaels (bonus, you can add extra flowers or leaves this way!) or repurposing your living room table by painting it and adding new table-top decorations. Finally, instead of spending a lot of money on an elaborate wall print, you may create your own with paint and a stencil or an easy-to-apply wallpaper.

Another fun twist to decorating is fake food (see our older blog on faking it).  You can spruce up your displays by adding fake cookies:

3.) Choose a Color Scheme

When decorating, pick a color scheme for your seasonal home décor first. Knowing what colors and vibe you want to convey in your house before shopping can help you choose seasonal décor items. Suppose you wanted to utilize the hues gold, silver, and red, for example. The color red is such an intense color, so just picking a few red accessories will make a massive difference in your space. You won't spend unnecessary money trying to figure that out in the heat of the moment.

4.) Cozy Lighting

The lighting in the house has a significant impact on the overall feel of your home. Bring in as much natural light throughout the day to wake it up. All you have to do is add lamps, candles, or fairy lights to keep the ambiance welcoming or even romantic after the sun has set. Try adding home decor that lights up.  Just a simple addition of lighting to your displays can change the entire setting.

5.) Dress it Up & Move it Around

You can quickly change the home's look by switching up your fabrics. Change your cushion covers, curtains, and area rugs to give your space a fresh look. Layer different textures of fabric in your living room to liven it up; it will add that little extra pizzazz to your living room. Another simple option for updating the appearance of your area is to rearrange the pieces. You can make the most of space when you arrange your furniture. You can even make your house look larger with the right floor design.
